If you have identified a colony of street cats that is perpetually reproducing, or are aware of
sick, abused, and/or neglected cats in need of rescuing, we may be able to help. Our volunteers
can trap or collect these cats and evaluate their health and overall condition to decide the
best course of action. Most importantly, we can humanely prevent the uncontrolled reproduction
cycle that contributes to these cat's misfortune.
email us at info@hillsdalefelinesandfriends.org and someone will be in contact with you.
Housing
We have been blessed with the gift of a 1000 square-feet, brand new facility, located at 350 Summit
St. Our building offers several small-room living spaces in which groups of compatible cats can live
and interact, an isolation room for ill or contagious cats, and several large, double-compartment cages
for cats that need time adjusting to their new environment or simply prefer to live alone. In order to
abide by zoning restrictions, ours is not a public facility, so visiting is strictly reserved for those seeking to adopt.
The adoption of a new pet into a family or household is a life-long commitment.
A well-cared for cat may live up to 20 years, and not unlike us humans, in order
to flourish physically and emotionally she will need their human companion to
invest in her wellbeing. A new cat owner should be aware of the cost involved in
keeping a cat and willing to make that investment. In average, this is what a cat will cost its owner per year:
Food: $150 - $300 (more if your cat needs to be on a prescription diet)
Litter and Supplies: $100-$250
Medical Needs (limited to annual examination, tests, vaccines, fleas and parasite preventives): $250-$350
Before you adopt, please consider your ability to properly provide for your cat, and keep in mind that these estimates do not reflect any health issues a cat may have during his or her lifetime.
When you adopt from Hillsdale Felines and Friends, your cat will have already been
Spayed or Neutered
Vaccinated
Tested for FIV and FLV
Free of all parasites
The Adoption Process
Once you decide that adopting a cat is the right choice for you, you can browse our list
of Adoptable Cats and complete our Adoption Application
. Our staff will review your application and get in touch
with you shortly (during the review process, we may suggest that you adopt a cat other than the one
you had in mind based on your stated habits and circumstance and the pet's needs or characteristics).
If or when your application is approved, the next step is for you to come into our facility to meet
the cat you have selected. As long as the threat of COVID-19 transmission remains with us, social
distancing must be observed during all visitations and a mask must be worn by all visitors.
No exceptions made. If after your visit you decide to go ahead with the adoption,
you will be asked to sign an Adoption Contract.
Adoption Fees
Our adoption fee is $80 whether you adopt a kitten or an adult cat. If for any reason you decide
to return the cat/kitten back to our facility, we will not be able to reimburse you for the adoption fee.
Hillsdale Felines and Friends reserves the right to petition a visit to the home of all potential adopters.
